Anna Robbins has been a detective for many years now, since she moved across the country at eighteen and became a police officer in San Francisco. She loves her job, loves helping those in need, especially the kids. They hold a special place in her heart for reasons she’d rather not speak of.
Oliver Davies is a stranger on the street, until the night he saves her life. She stumbles into his life, lighting it up in a way he doesn’t expect, but he swoops into hers, saving her in ways she never imagined were possible.
With her past coming back in full force to haunt her and ruin her future, Anna is helpless to stop it, leaving her to wonder if recovery is possible after something such as this. How does one move on from the worst possible things and find happiness and love?
Oliver only wants to help, to save her from what torments her, but does he have what it takes? When her life is on the line once more, can he save her, love her despite her endeavors, or will he break that last little bit of her that’s hanging on?

Reading it does not affect the timeline of the rest of the series, however, it is technically timed after When Hearts Heal due to a certain detective moving away.
