Journals
As an author and a person, I love journals for all sorts of reasons♥
I grew up journaling my feelings away after school, on the weekends, after break ups and failed friendships. All the drama of my life was poured onto paper as I cried or giggled and sorted out my thoughts and emotions. I never understood why, but writing things down allowed me a way to sort through my thoughts, ask myself questions, and answer those questions. I could ponder and put down options for why things might have happened the way they did, and it allowed me to find a way to cope, to see alternate routes, to find solutions and steps to move forward without lashing out or making things worse.
As an adult, I still journal, just not as often. My life is much calmer now, and between my husband and best friends, they’re sort of my diaries, but if things do stick with me and I struggle with emotions, I grab a pen and my journal and write it all out until I feel better.
As an author, these kinds of journals are great for notes on my books, characters, settings, descriptions. I much prefer to write on paper than on a computer, it’s something I’ve always loved, and now I know there’s a very interesting scientific reasoning behind it!
Did you know that writing on paper activates alpha and theta brainwaves associated with memory and learning whereas typing on a computer or screen doesn’t do that. There are also 16 distinct neural connections that only light up when handwriting. These pathways don’t exist when typing! By handwriting in a journal, you’re accessing brain states that you can’t get through technological means. Top it off with the fact that the 16 neural pathways activated by handwriting can potentially create a feedback loop between intention and reality, writing down things you hope for can essentially manifest it into reality. By writing with pen and paper, you are creating specific neural pathways and accessing parts of your mind you can’t get through a screen, and it could potentially make you smarter, a more critical thinker, and able to shape your reality by seeing and making things you seek come to life. Your hand to that paper is a conduit for your thoughts, and that’s why ancients thought writing sacred, it was important, and why so many believe that writing down manifestations and goals are critical to achieving them.
So if you’re looking for a notebook that’s beautiful and fulfills your need to write things down, I’ve got a few for you to choose from, and I definitely intend to make more! I even intend to buy copies of them for my own personal use.
Give writing a try if you haven’t before, see how you feel after. If nothing else, you’ll have a gorgeous cover to enjoy staring at.
You can find all my journals linked down below with my author guide and journal in a reading list that makes it easy for you to find them all in one place and order what you’d like.
