New Life Series (YA)
This series was inspired by my little sister, who is 15 years younger than I am. At the time, she was about 13 when she asked for me to write a story that she could read. She gave me a basic premise, something she somewhat related to, and I rolled with it. Originally, it was only supposed to be 3 books, but the series took a life of it’s own in book 2, and I knew there was no way I could stop with Molly.
Charlie is based on my baby brother, who is 5 years older than my sister, and he’s actually the boy on the cover of book 1. I took that photo myself in his backyard at night to get it just right. Molly is based on my sister, not in looks but in attitude at the least, and I had a lot of fun getting to write each of these stories.
I intentionally wrote this series with lots of growth, personal struggles, and uplifting moments of encouragement to help show my sister, and any other teens reading, that despite being young, things being hard, and feeling as if you can’t do a thing, there’s always a way to make things right. You can absolutely succeed and do amazing, grand things despite your age and lack of resources. Sometimes you’ll need help, but if you rely on friends and family for that, you’ll never have to worry, you’ll make it through.
I’m not sure if I’ll continue writing more YA stories or not in the future, but my adult readers have loved this series and it’s characters, and I really hope you will, too. When your life is turned upside down by the chaos that becomes your reality, you have tough choices to make. You can either struggle and get upset, or you can step up and find a solution to your problems.
Does age really matter in this situation? I think not. Each of the teens in this series will face unfortunate and life-changing events and will handle it in their own way. Each of them will find a big solution to the problems they face, and despite the fact that their goals are bigger than they are, they make them happen anyway.
